Adoption Counselors are the exceptional volunteers that help the SPCA in the office. While, as the name implies, they help to adopt out the SPCA dogs and cats, Adoption Counselors do so much more to benefit the SPCA.
Adoption Counselors act as the volunteer support staff for the office. As well as, the counselors who help the public find the perfect furever family member.
Some of their important duties include:
Greeting The Public
Answering Phones
Sorting Through and Putting Away Donated Items
Making Up Dog and Cat Goodie Bags
Checking In On SPCA Animals After They Have Been Adopted Through Phone Calls
And Of course,
Adopting Out The Dogs And Cats At The SPCA.
Adoption Counselors have three shifts they can sign-up for:
Morning
Afternoon
Evening
We ask that Counselors spend at least two hours at the SPCA during a shift time.
How many shifts do Adoption Counselors do per month? We ask that Adoption Counselors volunteer their time for 5 shifts a month. Roughly 10 hours per month or 2.5 hours a week. If you would like to be an Adoption Counselor, but cannot commit 10 hours a month, you may speak with the SPCA's Volunteer Coordinator to establish an individual schedule for you. We also understand that a lot of our Adoption Counselors are snowbirds or go off to college in the winter.
Orientation is 45 minutes in the office with the SPCA's Volunteer Coordinator.
The cost is free.
After orientation, New Adoption Counselors can shadow staff and other Adoption Counselors until they are comfortable working on their own.
