General Orientation is our most popular volunteer opportunity! The majority of our volunteers want to work directly with the dogs and cats- and if that's what you're looking for, you're in the right place.
Orientation Cost:
$25 for Adults
$10 for Kids
You will get an SPCA T-shirt, Badge, & Handbook.
Age Requirements:
Volunteers MUST be 8 years old or over.
Volunteers 8 - 15 MUST be with a parent or guardian who is also a trained SPCA volunteer at all times.
16-17 year old's may volunteer on their own with a parent's signature on their liability waiver and have their own Volunteer Profile on the site.
Kids 13+ may create their own volunteer profile, but they will still need a parent to volunteer with them. If kids 13+ would like their volunteer hours recorded for school or community service, they will need their own profile. If not, they are not required to have their own profile.
Kids 8-12 cannot have a profile due to The Children's Online Privacy And Protections Act.
All kids are required to go through orientation to volunteer. If a parent is bringing a child to orientation 17 and under who does not have their own volunteer profile to sign-up for an orientation, they need to email the SPCA's Volunteer Coordinator to inform the SPCA of how many kids they are bringing and the orientation day/time they signed up for. Please arrive 5-10 minutes prior to your orientation for check-in. Orientation is 45 minutes.
After orientation, we will go on a 10 minute tour of the SPCA. We go outside- Rain, Shine, or Snowstorm. Dress appropriately for the weather and being around animals. Wear closed-toed shoes. You may volunteer to walk dogs and socialize with cats after orientation.
The SPCA accepts an average of 25 new volunteers per week. We are looking forward to having everyone who wants to volunteer become part of our team, however spots fill-up quickly in orientation. Please keep checking back until you can secure a spot. Orientation is set for 4 slots to account for children coming.
Note: The SPCA has dogs of all types and sizes, however the majority of our dogs are medium to large sized. Dogs that can be walked are all 6+ months old.
